CIACCONA is the 3rd movement of “Pentaspecchio”,a work going from very easy gradually to higher grades. The movements have been named according to major titles of music history. CIACCONA is a type of musical composition popular in the baroque era when it was much used as a vehicle for variation on a repeated short harmonic progression, often involving a fairly short repetitive bass-line.
SONATA is the 4th movement of “Pentaspecchio”,a work going from very easy gradually to higher grades. The movements have been named according to major titles of music history.
SONATA means literally a piece played, opposite to cantata, a piece sung. The term evolved through the history of music designating a variety of forms until the classical era, when it took on increasing importance. Sonata is a vague term, with varying meanings depending on the context and time period.
In this context, the word SONATA refers to the sonata form introduced to music composition in the mid-18th century.
